Mediacom Communications is rolling out Evolution Digital’s eBOX hybrid IP/QAM set-top box as the cable operator shifts to IP video.

Mediacom said it has made eBOX its primary next-generation non-DVR set-top box throughout its footprint, which reaches nearly 1.4 million customers across the Midwest and Southeast U.S.

The device, powered by TiVo’s technology and user interface, aggregates leading third-party streaming apps on one platform, without the need to switch inputs, boxes or remotes.

Evolution said Mediacom’s rollout of the eBOX will include Evolution Digital-enabled IP pay-per-view services.

“We are excited to bring Evolution Digital’s cost-effective eBOX to our customers and provide the best content available on an enriched and streamlined platform,” JR Walden, SVP and CTO at Mediacom, said in a statement. “We have made the eBOX our primary next-generation non-DVR set-top box for households throughout our systems.”

Other cable operators deploying the eBOX include GCI, RCN, Wave Broadband, WOW!, and multiple members in the National Cable Television Cooperative.

Mediacom’s deployment comes as Evolution last week debuted its Android TV-based all-IP eSTREAM 4K device for MVPDs.
